The work at this 40th Avenue bungalow in Hyattsville, MD involved the addition of an entire second floor and restructuring the first floor. The design preserves the original exterior characteristics, while doubling the square footage of the original two-bedroom, one bathroom house.
The newly configured home provides a side entry accessed from the driveway. A former bedroom was converted to a sitting room with built-in storage under the stair. The kitchen has a new serving peninsula created by removing a portion of the wall, and large rear windows provide the kitchen views overlooking the backyard. Upstairs, three bedrooms with 1.5 baths illustrate efficient design that meets the family’s needs.
